Direct Flights From Beijing To Tokyo Haneda

Sunday 25 October saw the first Haneda (Tokyo) - Beijing flights linking the Japanese and Chinese capitals.

Previously all direct flights were between Narita and Beijing Capital International Airport.

There are around 1300 flights annually between the two cities. Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airlines and Air China will operate daily services from Haneda which is nearer to downtown Tokyo than Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture.

Dalian is a major port on China's east coast for both freight and passenger traffic.

There are ferry services to Tianjin and Yantai and to Incheon in South Korea.

Located on the Yellow Sea, Dalian is the most northern ice-free port in China. The port has been occupied in its history by Britain, Russia and Japan.

SMP Skate Park in Shanghai is the world's largest skate park.

SMP Skatepark Shanghai

The 12,000 square metre skate park is part of the New Jiangwan City redevelopment of a former military airbase 12 km from downtown Shanghai. The skate park has the world's biggest vertical ramp, the world's biggest concrete skate bowl (with 360 degree full pipe) and a 5,000 capacity stadium.

New maps or "cartograms" from Worldmapper graphically show the population density of China.
China has the world's largest population with a fifth of humanity living in The Middle Kingdom. The gray areas represent low population density.

The total population of China was estimated in 2008 at an incredible 1,330,044,544.

Western Sichuan

Western Sichuan

The western part of Sichuan Province is known for its beautiful mountain scenery.

The foothills of the Himalayas rise here with peaks reaching up to 5,000 meters (16,400 ft) and above.

Western Sichuan

The Hailou Gou (Conch Valley) glacier is at 3,720 meters and the area around Moxi Xiang, from where visitors can access the glacier, is inhabited by a large Qiang minority population. Sichuan's highest mountain is the 7,556 meter-tall Gongga Shan.

The area around Kangding is inhabibited by Khampa peoples, who are ethnically Tibetan and follow Tibetan Buddhism. Tibetan prayer flags flutter in the wind in the picture above. Tibetan stupa dot the landscape.

Kangding has been an important trading center with Tibet since ancient times, with tea going west to Tibet in exchange for copper goods and wool.
