Beijing’s Olympic Houses

Following Olympic tradition a number of countries have set up national "houses" in different parts of Beijing for the 2008 Games - the pick of these are the Swiss, Italian, Dutch and Canadian houses, principally because they are open to the public and not just for corporate sponsors, VIPs and athletes.

This massive space at the 706 Factory space in Dashanzi's 798 art district will be the epicenter of the Swiss community from August 2nd through to the 24th. There's a restaurant serving Swiss food, a luxury chocolate-making station, a movie theater, a lounge and bar, and a public area with a large screen for viewing Olympic action. Swiss athletes may also pop in to the house to soak up the adoration of fans (or drink away their sorrows).

Holland Heineken House

Opening on August 7th, this is sure to be one of the most boisterous national houses in Beijing. In Athens this house was party central with spin maestro DJ Tiesto making a flying visit for his countrymen. This year there's no telling who might show up, but as the largest hospitality house in Beijing located inside the massive Agricultural Exhibition Hall, it's one of the top destination for Olympic fun-seekers.

In addition to helping Dutch medal winners celebrate, the Holland House will offer various cultural activities, including Dutch snack tastings and opportunities to watch famous Dutch artists perform (as well as plenty of beer). Crowds are sure to be large so arrive early (or with a crowd of Dutchmen) to avoid disappointment.
